ISLAMABAD: Tax collection by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) rose by 10.91 per cent to Rs600 billion during the first quarter (July-Sept) of 2015-16 as compared to Rs541bn in the same period last year.

However, it witnessed a shortfall of Rs48bn when compared with the target of Rs648bn set for the period.

FBR expects the final collection to be higher.

The break-up showed that Rs244bn were collected under direct taxes, Rs278bn as sales tax, Rs28bn as federal excise duty and Rs80bn as customs, a press release said.
