KARACHI: Three outfits National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) were through to the last four in the Premier Pakistan Cup nine-a-side hockey tournament at the Abdul Sattar Edhi Stadium on Thursday.
National Bank carved out a 2-1 victory over Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Development Squad Colours in their last league fixture to top pool A with a clean slate.
Arsalan Qadir and Shan Irshad scored one goal apiece in 22nd and 29th minutes respectively while Ilyas scored the consolation goal for losers in the 25th minute.
Similarly, PIA also continued their winning spree registering an emphatic 4-1 victory over Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Development Squad Whites to head pool B.
M. Zubair slammed three goals in a span of 10 minutes, including two on penalty corners, while Haseem Khan slammed the fourth.
Earlier, Fayyaz Yaqoob created quite a stir when heput PDS Whites in front by slamming a goal in 14th minute but the team failed to maintain their pace and succumbed to opponent`s pressure.
In the third match, SSGC thrashed Customs 7-2 to finish runners-up in pool A.
Rana Sohail starred for the SSGC with a tally of five goals while Taufig and Mohammad Rizwan added one goal apiece to complete the rout.
Salman Razzak and Hasnain Hussain scored once for Customs.
Coach of the Customs Mohammad Ali alleged that umpiring was not fair and the two umpires came under pressure of the SSGC players.
The fourth match between Wapda and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was in progress at the time of filing this report. The winner of this match will complete the semi-final quartet.
Earlier, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has abruptly revised the draws and organised four matches instead of two on Thursday to complete the league matches.
According to revised schedule, no matches will be played on Friday. The two semi-finals will be played on Saturday while the final and third-fourth position playof f will be staged on Sunday.
