The central bank injected a cumulative Rs60.9bn in the banking system last week through two open market operations.

In the first one, conducted last Tuesday, the SBP injected Rs23.2bn through a three-day contract at a rate of return of 8pc. In the next one, on Thursday, it pumped in Rs37.7bn through a one-day contract, also at 8pc.

According to the statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ending February 27, investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs5585.83bn, up 1.38pc from the preceding week’s level of Rs5509.725bn.

Investments of all commercial banks stood at Rs5559.574bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs5482.559bn, showing a rise of 1.4pc. Investments of all specialised banks stood at Rs26.256bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs26.166bn.

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs11686.086bn in the week ending February 27, higher by 0.57pc over the preceding week’s figure of Rs11619.607bn.Gross advances by scheduled banks stood at Rs4443.766bn in the week under review, an increase of 0.17pc over the preceding week’s figure of Rs4436.378bn. Advances by commercial banks rose by 0.16pc to Rs4300.248bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs4293.431bn.

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs11508.118bn in the week, up 0.58pc over the previous week’s figure of Rs11441.533bn. Total assets of all specialised banks stood at Rs177.968bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs178.074bn.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks also increased by 1.04pc to Rs8469.248bn, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs8382.391bn. Deposits and other accounts of all specialised banks stood at Rs21.135bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs20.845bn.Deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks rose 1.04pc to Rs8490.383bn in the week under review, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs8403.236bn.
Cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks decreased 0.15pc during the week under review to Rs679.532bn, against the earlier week’s figure of Rs680.579bn.Net assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs1242.804bn in the week ending February 27, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs1246.684bn, down 0.31pc. Net assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs1220.355bn in the week, down 0.26pc over the preceding week’s figure of Rs1223.515bn.

Cash and balances with treasury banks of all commercial banks stood at Rs676.005bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs677.066bn. Cash and balances with treasury banks of all specialised banks stood at Rs3.527bn in the week.
