APROPOS a report headlined `Scam of billions of rupees under probe in KP`, which was published in Dawn on Tuesday, the Bank of Punjab (BOP) has denied that it was one of the banks which had released heavy amounts to contractors against fake guarantees.

In a press release on Friday, the bank said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s local government minister Inayatullah Khan, on whose statement in provincial assembly the news report was partly based, had not been briefed properly on the matter.

At a meeting convened by the State Bank of Pakistan on Dec 2, `the BOP has already brought all the facts on record stating that BOP was being unnecessarily pressurised to make payments on expired guarantees…,’ said the press release.

‘(The) BOP owes nothing to the KPK government under these guarantees nor has BOP ever released any amount against fake guarantees…,’ added the handout.
