The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will release Annual Tax Directories of parliamentarians and general public today. They contain the names of taxpayers for disclosing titles and tax payments of the income tax return filers. The directory includes names of members of parliament, corporations, Association of Persons (AoPs) and individuals. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar will launch Tax Directories at Federal Board of Revenue at 5:30 pm this evening.
According to officials, the cabinet has approved the publication of Tax Directories of Parliamentarians and general taxpayers.
In continuation of last year’s initiative to publish a Tax Directory of Members of Parliament and in the exercise of powers conferred under Sub-Section (5) of Section of 216 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, Finance Minister will present the Tax Directory of Parliamentarians for the tax year 2015, prepared by the FBR. Tax Directory will provide tax details of all Members of Senate of Pakistan and the National Assembly of Pakistan and the Provincial Assemblies.
FBR introduces “STRIVe” – an electronic system for sales tax invoice verification, Chairman, Members, Chief Commissioners and Officers of FBR have extended their maximum assistance to the Parliamentarians in the filing of Income Tax Returns for the tax year 2015.
Last year, out of total 1169 Parliamentarians, 1040 had filed their Income Tax Returns for the year 2014. The directory was tabulated by returns filed manually and electronically.
Revenue officials claim that the issuance of tax directory was a significant milestone in providing access to information to the general public, and it should help in creating a sense of public awareness, motivation and transparency. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan is the fourth country in the world that release the tax directories of the parliamentarians and general taxpayers.
