ACCORDING to recently released central bank data, investments of all scheduled banks rose 0.55 per cent to Rs4,411.937bn in the week ending July 18.

Meanwhile, when compared with last year`s corresponding figure of Rs4,015.841bn, the current week`s figure is higher by 9.86 per cent. Investments of all commercial banks stood at Rs4,380.798bn in the week, against the preceding week`s figure of Rs4,355.650bn, up 0.58 per cent. Specialised banks` investments stood at Rs31.138bn in the week, against the preceding week`s figure of Rs31.972bn.

According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended July 18, cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks rose by 5.32 per cent to stand at Rs733.468bn, against the earlier week`s Rs696.402bn. The current week`s figure is higher by 33.3 per cent when compared with last year`s corresponding figure of Rs550.343bn.

Cash and balances with treasury banks of all commer-cial banks stood at Rs729.134bn in the week, against the preceding week`s figure of Rs692.958bn, or up 5.22 per cent. Cash and balances with treasury banks of all specialised banks stood at Rs4.333bn in the week, against the preceding week`s figure of Rs3.444bn.

Gross advances of all scheduled banks stood at Rs4,224.785bn in the week ending July 18, down 0.52 per cent over the preceding week`s figure of Rs4,202.774bn. When cornpared with last year`s corresponding figure of Rs3,776.964bn, the current week`s figure is higher by 11.85 per cent.

Gross advances by cornmercial banks dipped by 0.52 per cent to Rs4,092.316bn, against the earlier week`s figure of Rs4,070.592bn.

Advances by specialised banks stood at Rs132.469bn in the week.

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs10,260.523bn in the week under review, lower by 0.25 per cent over the preceding week`s figure of Rs10,286.598bn. The current week`s figure is higher by 12.6per cent when compared with last year`s corresponding figure of Rs9,112.978bn.

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs10,080.391bn in the week, down 0.26 per cent over the previous week`s figure of Rs10,106.642bn. Total assets of all specialised banks stood at Rs180.131bn in the week, against the previous week`s Rs179.956bn.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks rose by 3.71 per cent to Rs761.034bn in the week ending July 18, over the preceding week`s figure of Rs733.789bn. When compared with last year`s corresponding figure of Rs643.208bn, the current week`s figure is higher by 18.3 per cent.

Borrowings by all commercial banks rose by 4.16 per cent to Rs680.286bn in the week, against the previous week`s figure of Rs653.138bn.

Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs80.747bn in the week, against the preceding week`s figure of Rs80.651bn.

Deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks dropped by 0.65 per cent to Rs7,960.079bn in the week under review, against the preceding week`s figure of Rs8,012.311bn. When compared with last year`s corresponding figure of Rs7,021.744bn, the current week`s figure is higher by 13.4 per cent.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks fell by 0.65 per cent in the week to Rs7,939.396bn, against the preceding week`s figure of Rs7,991.036bn.

Deposits and other accounts of all specialised banks stood at Rs20.683bn in the week, against the previous week`s figure of Rs21.276bn.
